It is with such a heavy heart that I hear of Lucas' passing. Lucas was a great friend in high school, and CEGEP - such an integral part of my memories from the "good 'ol days". Lucas was such a loyal friend, and made all of those around him laugh. I remember fondly the water fights, ski trips, many laughs, and good talks. Such a warm, kind man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. My heart aches for you all - please know that Lucas will live on with all of us in our precious memories. Love, Karen

On behalf of Margaret Fisher and myself, I would like to express our sympathies to Diane, Angela, Christina and all of Luke's family on his passing. We only met Luke once briefly, but that was enough to know that he was not only a memorable character but a real gentleman as well. My brother, who also recently left us much too soon, knew Luke well and often spoke very fondly of him (and his cooking!). I know Luke will always be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Our sincere condolences. Garth Manson

My mom first introduced me to "Big Luke's" in Lancaster when I moved from Montreal in 2001, the ribs were amazing and the atmosphere, like being at their home. I wanted to hit DQ for dessert, but mom said they had something even better. That's when I discovered the Jam Buttie... oooh, a little bit of heaven. I always had it "the bullet", which was everything on it. It became a must when I went, just like the ribs.
I introduced all my friends to the place, and they would come up from Montreal to enjoy.
I started a tradition of having my birthday dinner there every year and was saddened when they closed in Lancaster. Once, my friend and I were finished dinner and she was going to treat, when the bill came, she realized she had forgotten her wallet. Diane had offered for us to pay at a later date. Try getting that offer at any other restaurant!
We were always greeted with big smiles and big hugs from both Luke and Diane. I kinda felt like part of their family. It was obvious today that Luke had many family and friends.
Luke, mom and I (Barbara Brault and Liz Sapena) will miss your great big hugs, your kind smile and your great food.
Diane, mom sends her condolences, as well as my friends Anmarie and Janet.
Please, take good care, we love you. Barbara, Liz, Anmarie and Janet

Luke and I were privileged to have been in a Karate style that required full contact fighting. He and I were paired up due to our weight, I was at a DISTINCT disadvantage. We were sparing back and forth and he got a really good punch to the back of my rib cage which won him the fight. He was a friend when we lived in Lancaster, and we visited his restaurant several times. Sorry to see a good soul leave before his time. Rest in Peace Luke, I will always remember you.

I did not know Luke for a very long time but we became close mostly over mutual respect and our love of music. Luke and I went to see John Hiatt in Montreal last year and it was an unbelievable show. I don't think Luke and I said 3 words to each other during the show as we were in awe of what we were witnessing and caught up in the quality of the performance....that is what I loved most...didn't need to speak unless he had something to say and always an intelligent view on things. I will miss our conversations and our texting about a new album, concert coming up or something just on our minds. Thank you for you friendship, your big heart and just being as real as they come. Also I will never forget how you treated Riley your little buddy. The love and attention you gave him every time you saw him was special and another reason that you are a king among men in my eyes. God rest my true friend...

Thoughts with Dianne and of Luke. Got a call last night from Jim G. letting me know of Big Luke's death.
I had the pleasure of knowing Luke for a short time when we both worked at Creg Quay and then dropping in from time to time to enjoy his great food served out of his and Dianne's kitchen in Lancaster. Even though I left eastern Canada before Luke bought his dream car, the "Vette", in my mind I see him "rockin down the highway", radio blasting oldies and waving to all as he flies by.

"only the good die young". Luke is now in the company of so many friends and family members who have left us because they were too good and/or too young. I'd bet that right now Gary's pouring the rum while Luke's cooking the ribs! The memories of our loved ones live forever in our hearts and in our minds through our family and friends. My deepest sympathies to you Diane, and to your family!

To Diane, James, Matthew and extended family. I too knew Lucas in early school years and remember well his grace as a big man, both on the basketball court and off. I have three sons myself, all quite tall and I remind them that an old school-years friend taught me long ago that you can be a giant in many respects, as a gentleman, an athlete, and as a kind and giving person. That is my memory of Lucas. I am deeply sorry to hear of your loss and hope that you will accept my condolences with hearfelt sympathy. Peter Ladouceur

My sincerest condolences to Diane, James, Mathew, and all of Big Luke's extended family. I was his basketball coach in high school and have fond memories of the big guy. He was the biggest player I ever coached in high school, and was the only player who could push me around as I was demonstrating to the team how to play when close to the basket. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
