Obituary of Eunice H. Lee
On November 2, 2021 at the Glengarry Memorial Hospital in Alexandria, Ontario, her soul was freed from its house of clay and took its flight to heaven. She was born in the Belgian Congo on December 2, 1927 in a hut with a mud floor, to missionary parents, the Reverend Gordon Percy and Rosalind Jane Near (nee Brown). Predeceased by her parents, her sister Evangeline Ruth and her brother, Gordon Spurgeon Near. She was the loving wife of the late Reverend Doctor Arthur Paterson Lee (deceased in Oshawa, Ontario on December 17, 2013). She supported her husband in serving with him in churches in Scotland (Edinburgh and Cardenden Fife), in the United States (Boston), and in Canada (Toronto, Hamilton and Moncton). She was the loving and devoted mother of Eunice (of Alexandria, Ontario) and Rosemary (of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario) and was an appreciative mother-in-law to the late Dr. Michael F. Lalli (of Alexandria, Ontario). She was the loving aunt to The Honourable Justice David Near (retired) of Carp, Ontario, Beverly Ferguson (Rick) of Trent River, Ontario, Kim Berrie (Erik) of Havelock, Ontario and Debbie Rankin (Mike) of Bowmanville, Ontario, and an adopted “Auntie” to John D. R. Humphreys (Andrea) of Oakville, Ontario. Heraldine was a high school graduate of Lubondai (Christian High School), The Ontario Teachers College, Boston University (BA, Biology; BSc Nursing) and Moncton University (MA ED). She treasured teaching Anatomy and Physiology at the Miss A.J. MacMaster School of Nursing. Medical Research was also an area of great interest and employment. Building bridges to others was the main focus of her life as she consistently tried to point them to discover the love of God. Her committal took place at the family plot in the United Church Cemetery, Alexandria, on November 5, 2021 where Heraldine and Arthur’s epitaph reads “Absent From the Body Present with the Lord”.
